Lewis County Football Week 2: Some Teams Chose Violence
LEWIS COUNTY, WA — Week 2 of high school football is in the books, and Friday night provided everything Lewis County expects from September: blowouts, one-point heart attacks, and at least one scoreboard that probably needed to be checked for structural damage.
Onalaska 56, Napavine 28 — Onalaska handed Napavine its first loss by putting up 56 points against the Tigers. Somewhere in Onalaska, a completely reasonable person has already begun researching hotel rooms near the state championship game.
Adna 26, Seton Catholic 18 — The Pirates moved to 2-0 with a considerably more civilized score than some of their neighbors. Adna apparently remains willing to win football games without turning the scoreboard into a calculator.
W.F. West 8, Lakes 7 — The Bearcats escaped with an 8-7 victory, presumably after everyone in Chehalis spent the final few minutes remembering they had blood pressure. A win is a win, particularly when it arrives one point at a time.
Centralia 48, R.A. Long 0 — Centralia followed its Week 1 shutout by producing another one, 48-0. Residents are advised to remain calm until scientists determine exactly what has happened to Centralia football.
Mossyrock 20, Evergreen 8 — Mossyrock bounced back with a 20-8 win, proving the Vikings were apparently just using Week 1 to gather information.
Toledo 40, Granite Falls 21 — Toledo put 40 on the board and evened its record. The Riverhawks have officially completed the traditional early-season process of losing once, getting annoyed about it, and taking that personally.
Naselle 64, Winlock 0 — Naselle scored 64. Winlock did not. We have been advised by our legal department that no further analysis is necessary.
Rainier 34, Pe Ell/Willapa Valley 16 — Rainier took care of PWV 34-16, leaving Trojan fans with the comforting knowledge that September football games cannot legally affect hunting season.
Morton 58, Chief Leschi 18 — Morton followed last week's 70-point performance by scoring another 58, suggesting the Timberwolves may have accidentally selected the arcade difficulty setting.
North Beach 50, White Pass 8 — White Pass had a rough night against North Beach, falling 50-8. The good news is nobody has ever won a state championship in the second week of September. The bad news is somebody still had to ride the bus home after that.
Two weeks into the season, Centralia has yet to allow a point, Morton has scored 128 points, Onalaska just dropped 56 on Napavine, and W.F. West apparently prefers winning games by the smallest legally permissible amount.
In other words, everything seems perfectly normal.
