Lewis County Football Week 3: Scoreboards Continue to Be Abused
LEWIS COUNTY, WA — Week 3 arrived Friday night, and Lewis County football has apparently settled into its natural rhythm: some teams are undefeated, some score 70 every week, and W.F. West has decided touchdowns are a luxury item.
Onalaska 44, Adna 32 — The Loggers won the week's biggest local showdown and moved to 3-0. Onalaska has now beaten Napavine and Adna in consecutive weeks, meaning nobody in Logger country will be remotely tolerable until further notice.
Napavine 62, Kalama 18 — Apparently unhappy about last week's loss to Onalaska, Napavine responded by scoring 62 points against Kalama. This seems less like bouncing back and more like Kalama receiving somebody else's punishment.
W.F. West 7, Kelso 6 — The Bearcats won by exactly one point for the second consecutive week, following last week's 8-7 victory over Lakes. W.F. West is now 3-0 while apparently operating under a strict policy prohibiting comfortable victories.
Centralia 57, Sammamish 40 — After opening the season with consecutive shutouts, Centralia finally allowed somebody to score. Unfortunately for Sammamish, the Tigers responded by scoring 57 themselves and moving to 3-0. The experiment known as "Centralia football being good again" continues.
Morton 70, Ocosta 14 — Morton scored 70. Again. The Timberwolves have now put up 198 points in three games, which is beginning to look less like a football offense and more like a clerical error.
Toledo 34, Tenino 0 — Toledo shut out Tenino and improved to 2-1. The Riverhawks have apparently discovered that the easiest way to avoid a close game is simply refusing to let the other team participate in the scoring portion.
Toutle Lake 22, Mossyrock 6 — Mossyrock fell to 1-2 after Toutle Lake held the Vikings to six points. The good news is there's plenty of season left. The bad news is that's exactly what coaches say when you're 1-2.
Naselle 16, White Pass 0 — White Pass was shut out by Naselle. Considering Naselle scored 64 against Winlock last week, holding the Comets to 16 technically qualifies as substantial progress.
Quilcene 12, Winlock 0 — Winlock's offense remained stuck in neutral Friday. At this point, Cardinals fans would probably accept a field goal just to make sure the scoreboard operator still knows where the home-score button is.
Hoquiam 40, Pe Ell/Willapa Valley 36 — PWV lost a four-point shootout to Hoquiam, which is the sort of game where everyone spends three hours yelling about defense before admitting they had a pretty good time.
Three weeks in, Onalaska, W.F. West and Centralia are all 3-0, Morton has scored 198 points, and W.F. West has won its last two games by a combined two points.
Lewis County football remains completely normal.
