Lewis County Football Week 4: Apparently Defense Was Optional
LEWIS COUNTY, WA — Week 4 arrived Friday night, bringing another collection of blowouts, heartbreak and scoreboard abuse. A few results were still unreported Saturday morning, so rather than consult a Ouija board, we're sticking to the finals that can actually be verified.
W.F. West 63, Columbia River 0
After winning its previous two games by a combined two points, W.F. West apparently decided that was exhausting and beat Columbia River by 63 instead. The Bearcats remain undefeated and Chehalis cardiologists were finally given the night off.
Centralia 56, Annie Wright 35
Centralia moved another step deeper into its unexpectedly entertaining season by hanging 56 on Annie Wright. The Tigers have now reached the point where Centralia residents may cautiously begin using the phrase "pretty good" without immediately knocking on wood.
Adna 52, Bellevue Christian 0
Adna responded to last week's loss to Onalaska by dismantling Bellevue Christian 52-0. Evidently the Pirates spent the week processing their emotions in the healthiest possible manner: taking them out on somebody else.
Tenino 7, Napavine 6
Napavine scored six points. Tenino scored seven. Several hundred people then spent the rest of Friday evening thinking about one point. The loss drops Napavine to 2-2 while Tenino improves to 3-1.
Ilwaco 54, Mossyrock 0
Mossyrock's trip to the coast ended with a 54-0 loss to Ilwaco. On the positive side, the Vikings presumably got to see the ocean.
Meridian 41, Onalaska 32
Onalaska's undefeated start came to an end with a 41-32 loss to Meridian. The Loggers finally discovered the unfortunate downside of scoring 32 points: occasionally somebody scores 41.
Toledo 50, Pe Ell/Willapa Valley 0
Toledo put 50 on the board while allowing none, which is generally considered a fairly reliable path to victory. The Riverhawks have now reached the portion of the season where opponents may want to begin checking the schedule twice.
Naselle 68, Morton 6
Morton's three-game scoring spree ran directly into Naselle and stopped rather abruptly. After scoring 198 points through three weeks, the Huskies were held to six, proving somebody finally located the circuit breaker.
Winlock 41, White Pass 20
Winlock finally broke through in a big way, beating White Pass 41-20 after being shut out in its previous two games. Apparently the Cardinals weren't unable to find the end zone — they were just saving them all for one night.
Four weeks into the season, W.F. West is still rolling, Centralia continues scoring like somebody changed the difficulty setting, Adna has rediscovered its temper, and Napavine just discovered exactly how expensive one missing point can be.
September football in Lewis County remains perfectly reasonable.
