Lewis County Football Week 5: The Scoreboards Have Requested Overtime Pay
LEWIS COUNTY, WA — Week 5 arrived with another collection of blowouts, shutouts and scores that suggest several defensive coordinators spent the weekend reconsidering their career choices.
W.F. West 49, Washougal 29
The Bearcats stayed perfect by putting 49 on Washougal. After spending two weeks winning by one point, W.F. West has apparently discovered that winning by several touchdowns requires considerably less paperwork.
Tenino 47, Centralia 16
Centralia's undefeated start officially met Tenino. The Beavers hung 47 on the Tigers, providing Centralia with a gentle reminder that September is over and apparently so was the grace period.
Napavine 44, Ilwaco 6
Napavine handled Ilwaco 44-6 and appears to have recovered nicely from that one-point Tenino loss. Nothing promotes emotional healing quite like scoring 44 points on somebody else.
Adna 46, Pe Ell/Willapa Valley 6
Adna rolled 46-6, continuing the Pirates' recent policy of making sure the fourth quarter is available for other activities.
Toledo 56, Toutle Lake 0
Toledo scored 56 and allowed zero. At some point "good defense" becomes less of an observation and more of an apology to the other team's parents.
Rainier 60, Mossyrock 0
Mossyrock ran into Rainier and lost 60-0. We have reviewed the available data and determined that Rainier scoring fewer points would probably have improved Mossyrock's chances.
Morton 62, Winlock 6
Morton put 62 on Winlock, returning to the offensive absurdity we became accustomed to earlier this season. Winlock, meanwhile, has now experienced enough character-building for one fall.
White Pass 50, Oakville 26
White Pass dropped 50 on Oakville and picked up another win. Evidently someone forgot to tell them that 50-point nights were supposed to be reserved for everybody else.
Onalaska 32, Mount Baker 14
Onalaska made the long trip north worthwhile, beating Mount Baker 32-14 and improving to 4-1. After last week's loss to Meridian, the Loggers apparently decided one losing streak was plenty.
Week 5 leaves W.F. West undefeated, Onalaska back in the win column at 4-1, Toledo coming off a 56-point shutout, Morton back above 60, and several local scoreboards in need of a quiet week.
Apparently close football games have been temporarily discontinued.
