Lewis County Football Week 6: Scoreboards Getting Close To Needing An Extra Digit
LEWIS COUNTY, WA — Week 6 brought another Friday night of shutouts, close calls and one score that appears to have wandered over from basketball season. Lewis County teams once again provided plenty of reasons to check the scoreboard twice.
W.F. West 42, Hockinson 7
The Bearcats stayed unbeaten with a 42-7 win over Hockinson. After those back-to-back one-point wins earlier this season, W.F. West has apparently discovered that winning by five touchdowns is considerably less stressful.
Montesano 32, Centralia 7
Centralia fell 32-7 to Montesano, marking the Tigers' lowest-scoring night of the season. Apparently the early-season unlimited-points promotion has officially expired.
Onalaska 52, Rainier 0
Onalaska shut out Rainier 52-0. The Loggers appear to have interpreted "defend your home field" as instructions to prevent visitors from using the end zone entirely.
Napavine 48, Pe Ell/Willapa Valley 12
Napavine rolled 48-12 over PWV. After suffering a one-point loss earlier this season, the Tigers continue experimenting with the safer strategy of simply winning by 36.
Forks 31, Adna 24
Adna gave undefeated Forks a fight but came home seven points short. Unfortunately, "almost ruining somebody's perfect season" still counts as a loss in the standings.
Toledo 56, Castle Rock 13
Toledo put 56 on Castle Rock for its fifth straight win. The Riverhawks continue to treat the scoreboard less like a scoreboard and more like something that personally insulted them.
Morton 94, North Beach 68
Morton beat North Beach 94-68 in a game featuring 162 combined points. At some point during the fourth quarter, the scoreboard operator presumably began filling out a workers' compensation claim.
Columbia 58, Mossyrock 16
Mossyrock fell 58-16 to Columbia. The Vikings are now accepting suggestions for Friday-night activities that involve considerably fewer opposing touchdowns.
Wahkiakum 56, White Pass 0
White Pass ran into undefeated Wahkiakum and lost 56-0. The Panthers did successfully prevent the Mules from reaching 60, which is technically a statistic we can put here.
Rochester 20, Tenino 19
Undefeated Rochester escaped Tenino by one point, 20-19. Apparently somebody had to preserve Southwest Washington's proud tradition of making everyone stare nervously at the scoreboard until the final whistle.
Ocosta 54, Winlock 28
Winlock got an early start on the weekend Thursday, falling 54-28 to Ocosta. Four touchdowns normally feels pretty productive until the other team scores nearly twice as many.
Week 6 leaves W.F. West and Rochester unbeaten, Onalaska coming off a 52-point shutout, Toledo riding five straight wins, and Morton having scored enough points for a respectable NBA game.
