Man Carrying Cross Defies Odds, Survives Centralia and the Storm
CENTRALIA — A man carrying a large cross through Centralia on Friday managed to overcome two formidable obstacles at once: a powerful windstorm and Centralia itself.
Durrell Bell was seen making his way along Harrison Avenue in heavy rain and strong winds while carrying the cross toward Olympia as part of a faith-driven journey. Despite soaked roads, gusting wind and the usual assortment of Centralia traffic, Bell continued forward.
Witnesses reported that Bell not only survived the weather, but successfully passed through town without losing the cross, getting flattened by a falling branch or becoming permanently trapped behind someone making a left turn on Harrison.
According to Nisqually Valley News, Bell is traveling to the Washington state Capitol while sharing the Gospel along the way.
By the time he cleared Centralia, Bell had effectively completed what locals consider a two-stage endurance event: weathering a major storm and navigating the Twin Cities corridor on a Friday.
The storm eventually moved on.
Bell did too.
