In a huge misunderstanding, a Chehalis man was arrested after exposing his wenis
CHEHALIS, WA — What began as an innocent park stroll at Stan Hedwall Park on Saturday afternoon quickly devolved into a full-blown police intervention when a 42-year-old local resident innocently lifted his sleeve to reveal his “wenis.”
Eyewitnesses say the man was simply demonstrating the correct pronunciation of the now-infamous word—popularized in prank culture to mean “your elbow”—when a passing jogger, unfamiliar with the term, called 911 reporting “indecent exposure.” Within minutes, two Chehalis Police officers arrived on the scene to find Thompson standing by a picnic table, elbow raised, his gray T-shirt boldly emblazoned with the words “Check out my WENIS!” and a cartoon elbow.
“They told me to cover my arm,” the man said, shaking his head. “I told them, ‘Officer, I’m just showing you my wenis—my elbow!’ The officers, bound by procedure, booked Thompson on charges of “public indecency,” mere moments before realizing that “wenis” was harmless slang rather than some secret local ordinance violation. After a brief trip downtown and many sheepish apologies, Chehalis PD released the man with no charges filed. “We regret the misunderstanding,” said one Officer, “and will be updating our training manual to include common slang terms that involve body parts—but aren’t really body parts at all.” The local residents have since scheduled a free “Wenis Awareness” workshop at Stan Hedwall Park next Saturday—this time with police-approved demonstrations.
