Father Teaches Son Valuable Life Lesson By Getting Stuck In A Hole He Told Him Not To Go Into
APE CAVES, WA—In what many are calling a masterclass in “do as I say, not as I do,” local father Greg Thompson provided his son, Timmy, with a life lesson he’s not likely to forget. Thompson, an amateur cave enthusiast with a documented history of questionable decisions, fell through a lava tube skylight after instructing his 8-year-old son to stay away from the dangerous hole.
“I was trying to show him the value of good decision-making,” Thompson shouted from the bottom of the 20-foot chasm as a rescue team rappelled down to retrieve him. “I told him, ‘Timmy, a smart man knows when to take the easy path. A dad, however, sees a dangerous hole and says, ‘Let’s see what’s at the bottom.’”
The Volcano Rescue Team, who were already in the area helping a couple with a tangled set of hiking sticks, were quickly dispatched to the scene. One rescue worker, who asked to remain anonymous, said "He just kept yelling, 'This is a metaphor for my life, Timmy! It's all about poor decision-making and getting stuck in a hole!'"
After being rescued with only minor scrapes, Thompson defended his actions, calling himself a “hands-on parent.” He explained that a lecture would not have been as effective as this memorable moment of getting stuck in a hole.
When asked what he learned from the experience, Timmy simply replied, “I learned that Dad has a really loud voice.”
